Training in laboratory medicine in Bruges, Leuven, Stuttgart and Ghent (1982-1987)

Recognized as medical specialist in clinical pathology since 1987

Active as clinical chemist at Ghent University Hospital since 1984

Professor in clinical chemistry (Ghent University) since 1994

Visiting professor in Lithuania, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, DR Congo, China, Palestine and South Africa

Past-president of the Belgian Society for clinical chemistry

Major research interests: plasma proteins, urinalysis, kidney function, glycation, clinical chemistry in third world countries

Author or co-author of over 500 articles and 21 chapters in books; Hirsch index: 53; over 12,000 citations

Promotor of 22 PhD thesisses and 32 master thesisses, holder of 6 international patents

Since 2005 member of the National kidney disease educational program (NKDEP) laboratory working group (USA)

Member of the IFCC/WASPaLM Working Group on Chronic Kidney Disease (WG-CKD)

2002-2005: Member of the IFCC Working Group on the laboratory Management of rHuEPO
