Prof. Dr. Ron van Schaik (PhD, FACB) is a registered European Specialist Laboratory Medicine (2003) and a Full Professor of Pharmacogenetics (2013). He is working at the Dept. Clinical Chemistry at the Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is Director of the International (IFCC) Reference Center for Pharmacogenetics and leads the Unit Research & Development of the Dept. Clinical Chemistry. Main responsibility is Pharmacogenetic translational research and diagnostic implementation. Specific research interests are Transplantation / Immunosuppression (cyclosporin, tacrolimus, MMF), Oncology (paclitaxel, docetaxel, tamoxifen), Pain (morphine, tramadol), Psychiatry (antidepressants, antipsychotics), HIV (efavirenz, nevirapine) and Anticoagulation (coumarins). He has published over 200 articles in pharmacogenetics.
Prof van Schaik participates in National and International advisory committees on Pharmacogenetics, a.o. the IFCC Task Force Pharmacogenetics (Chair), the AACC Personalized Medicine Division (board), the Clinical Pharmacogenetic Implementation Consortium (CPIC; member), the European Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (Eu-PIC; chair (www.eu-pic.net)), the European Pharmacogenetics Research Network (Steering Committee), European Society for Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Therapy (ESPT; VP, Chair Scientific & Clinical Implementation Division), the International Association for TDM and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT) Pharmacogenetics Committee (chair), IUPHAR working group Pharmacogenetics (member), the European Society for Precision Medicine (EUSPM; treasurer), the Pharmacogenetics Working Group of the European Medicine Agency (EMA), the Dutch Task Force Pharmacogenetics (NVKC; chair), the Dutch Committee on Molecular Biological Diagnostics (CMBD; chair) and the Dutch Network for Clinical Pharmacogenetics (chair). In 2001, he received the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Award for Outstanding Research, in 2009 the AACC Outstanding Speaker Award, and in 2010 the AACC/Mol Pathology Award for Outstanding Scientific Research.
